Poetry Journey #28
“Love Across Time" - Ambitious Scope
Bigger Concepts
This week's poem:
Love Across Time
They say we are 8,856 days apart—
Twenty-four years, two months, twenty-nine days.
A lifetime measured in calendars and clocks.
But love doesn't count the days.
Love counts the moments—
The shared breaths, the quiet smiles,
The stolen glances that rewrite destiny.
One heart grew strong when vinyl played,
The other dreamed beneath digital stars.
Two souls from different eras,
Yet perfectly aligned in this very moment.
Because when love arrives,
Time is no longer a barrier—
It's the bridge that brings us home.
My Assessment: This is one of my more ambitious poems in terms of scope and concept.
What I Think Works:
The specific detail ("8,856 days") grounds the abstract theme
"The stolen glances that rewrite destiny" is strong
The contrast between "vinyl played" and "digital stars" is vivid
The progression from separation to connection feels earned
What I'm Uncertain About:
"Rewrite destiny" might be overwrought
Does "bridge that brings us home" feel too neat an ending?
Is this too long for what it accomplishes?
Technical Elements:
Good mix of concrete details and abstract concepts
Clear narrative progression
Effective use of contrast
What I'm Learning: Bigger concepts give me more room to develop ideas, but also more opportunities to overreach.
Questions for Readers:
Does the time/love concept work throughout?
Which details feel most effective?
Is the ending satisfying or too tidy?
How do you handle big themes without being grandiose?
